Below are a few things to consider when reintroducing people into the workplace.
Split Working Weeks
It is not necessary to return all your staff to work at the same time, especially if you are a larger organisation. We recommend splitting your organisation into groups, for example, the admin team and the delivery team. The admin team may consist of finance, human resources and marketing personnel. The delivery team may consist of delivery, customer service and sales personnel.
Having teams come in on alternating weeks or fortnights is a great way to encourage collaboration again whilst mitigating the risk of exposure to COVID-19.
To do this effectively, you will need to split your office space into designated admin and delivery team areas. This should include meeting rooms, desks and, where possible, break out spaces and stationary spaces. You will also need to decrease the maximum capacity of your office and meeting rooms to ensure that a 1.5m distance is always maintainable by your staff.
Below is a floor plan that highlights how you can plan and communicate the spaces for the different teams.
Additional cleaning and sanitisation need to be observed in the workplace to decrease the spread of germs. Sanitisation stations should be set up with hand sanitiser and disinfectant wipes/spray for staff to use on their desks.
Staff need to wipe down their workspace with disinfectant within the first hour of arriving and before they leave at night. On the below floorplan, green highlights where antibacterial stations should be set up. Red highlights surfaces that need cleaning at intervals throughout the day.
Creating a COVID-19 Cohesive Workspace
After addressing the health aspects of going back to work, working practices within your offices need to be re-established.
With half of your staff working from home and all meetings conducted over video conference, a normal day of work looks different. Change needs to happen to accommodate the new communication channels.
This may mean having a designated space for video conferences or ensuring all staff have access to their own headsets to decrease disruption to those around them.
